II. Condition of binh minh special school

Binh Minh Special School for children with disabilities (Dong Anh, Hanoi) was established in 2002 with the aim of educating disabled children in Dong Anh District and nearby provinces. School now has 19 teachers and 102 pupils with deaf and intellectual disabilities. School facilities include 09 rooms, 01 dining room and 01 rehabilitation room.

Thanks to the whole-hearted education of teachers and the huge support of generous individuals and organizations, metal and spiritual pain of pupils was relieved as they have been studied and integrated into society like their peers. However, due to the specific communication environment and limited government subsidies, Binh Minh School faces difficulties in teaching, meeting nutritional needs as well as ensuring good health for the children.

School has to balance the limited budget in providing meals for pupils; therefore,  they are still encountering nutritious deficiency. When visiting the dining room, we were astonished at the clean and airy atmosphere here but immediately feel pity for children’s simple meals lacking sufficient nutrients. Each lunch meal with the low price of 10,000 VND, including 8,000 VND from sponsors and 2,000 VND from their family contribution, cannot serve enough nutrition for school-aged children.

Naive glint in their eyes though meals are frugal

As a school for handicapped, school offers a 5-class education program in 10 years. According to this program, 18 year-old or 19 year-old graduates just have equivalent knowledge basis to grade-5 students’. Actually, most of them struggle to find a job after finishing primary school and become burden for family and society. Therefore, to equip internet-connected computers is an urgent demand that would give the children opportunities to approach to career information, job orientation and vocational training during their school time.

Students ‘age are various, ranging from 5-6 to 18-19 years old

In conclude, we look forward to and really appreciate your concern and support in order to support disadvantaged children of Binh Minh Special School. To the children, it would be a significant spiritual gift and a bridge that leads them closer to community to be welcomed and loved.

The children are excited and passionate in class though they find it difficult to listen and understand

Feedback
  • I had a great time volunteering with CVTD. Had the opportunity to meet amazing people from so many countries, besides the experience to work with disable kids that was so special and definitely unforgettable in my life. I got all the support i needed and felt home during the month i spent on the project. Hope to come back one day.

  • My experience with CVTD Vietnam was great ! Work with kids is really tiring and you have to keep your energy and enthusiasm all the time but when you see them smiling, having fun and the most important learning things from you it really worth it !
