HOW TO GET THERE
Binh Minh NYG Homestay is a two and a half hour drive from Hanoi City. It’s a pleasant and scenic drive, especially in the early hours of dawn.
Alternatively, you can also take a bus for 70-100.000 VND or a train for 75.000 VND. The train station is about 7-10 minutes from the Ninh Binh Homestay and works out extremely conveniently for travellers.

Tam Coc
From pagodas to boat rides, Tam Coc offers a wide range of activities and places to visit. Often called the Ha Long bay islands, Tam Coc repeatedly stands up to its name with its picturesque landscapes. The streets of Tam coc also offer a range of restaurants with some of the best Vietnamese food and coldest beers. A few shops around the streets offer souvenirs perfect for friends and loved ones back home. You can spend a few hours on the boat ride along the Ngô Đồng River. The ride takes you through a scenic landscape mainly dominated by rice fields and karst towers. Through the course of the ride, you pass through three caves, the largest of which is 125m long and has its ceiling nearly 2m above the water bed. Despite being one of the most touristic spots in Ninh Binh, Tam Coc offers a nice mix of cultures while still maintaining its authenticity.
Bich Dong pagoda
For the explorer, this enchanting cluster of cave temples is a couple of kilometers north of Tam Coc. This pagoda dates back to 1428 after two monks were enamoured by the scenic ambience of the place. Bich Dong Pagoda gives tourists have a great chance to turn back to the Post Le Dynasty’s legends. The Pagoda unfolds in three layers which the explorer hikes through. Bich Dong Pagoda is set in a lush environment that begins with a rustic bridge across the lake that leads to a majestic entrance. The hike commences at the Ha Pagoda (Lower Pagoda) which is located at the base.The roof of the Pagoda has two storeys and 8 roofs. It has broad eaves which is constructed of 6 stone steps. After a thorough look at the Lower Pagoda, one has to ascend a flight of 100 steps that lead to the Trung Pagoda, (Central Pagoda). Trung Pagoda heads westwards. The roof of pagoda has 2 stories, the upper temple has 3 rooms, and the forecourt has 3 rooms. In the final leg of the trek, in order to reach Thuong pagoda (upper pagoda), tourists have to get through the Dark Cave or Blue Cave and climb up 40 stone steps on the mountain side. At this stage, one is rewarded with the spectucular view of the mountains and architecture of Bich Dong. The pagoda has 2 rooms in a vertical house-style, the outer room has a forecourt with a stone alter. Bich Dong Pagoda is easily one of North Vietnam’s best wonders and is worth a visit.
Thung Nham (Birds Valley)
For the curious nature explorer, Thung Nham (Birds Valley) in Ninh Binh is an evergreen and well maintained space to wander in. Located in Hoa Lu district, 12kms south of Ninh Binh City, the spacious park is embedded in a residential area with its charming natural vibe intact. The two hour long trek ventures into a trail of underground caves and through mountains as well. One can even walk into an orchard of a wide variety of tropical fruits ranging from Mangoes, Guavas, Leeches and Dragon Fruit. Bird Valley is engulfed in the midst of Limestone Mountains with caves valleys and caves for company. It boats of housing over 40 species of birds. Its best to enjoy Thung Nham during summer and spring when its breeding time for the birds. For a truly remarkable experience, one is advised to take a boat through the mangrove forests to watch the birds in the late afternoon hours. One can expect to feel calm in this tranquil atmosphere and truly feel a part of nature.
Hoa Lu
For the spiritual explorer, Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam is the perfect stop. With its rich culture and heritage preserved beautifully, the main attractions in Hoa Lu are the various temples and caves. To name a few: The temple of Dinh Tien Hoang, Temple of Le Dai Hanh, Nhat Tru temple, and the Thien Ton cave. An annual festival commemorating the history of Vietnam takes place in Hoa Lu in the third month of the Lunar year. The festivities include a fair, games and ceremonies. The scenic area can be explored along with a few other nearby attractions such as Phat Diem cathedral, Bai Dinh temple and Trang an, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Center.
ACTIVITIES TO ENGAGE IN
Goat Grazing
For the secret nature lover who has always wanted to explore the rural and greener parts of the world, the ever green landscape of Ninh Binh offers them an exciting farming experience. The practice of farming goats and poultry for food and agriculture is very prevalent in a lot of parts of Vietnam. Ninh Binh in particular has a wide array of homestay options, some of which are available in farmlands for travellers who are enthusiastic to be one with nature. A firsthand look at the rural farming experience is obtained when one accompanies a local farmer in his field. You can discover country life in its fullest as you follow the trail of a goat herd and learn their daily routine. The herd gets out in the morning and stroll around the field in designated paths. Post-mating season, on an average, a female goat delivers up to three offspring, carrying each one for 5 months. Goat is mostly farmed for its meat which is called as “Tibicco” in the local dialect. Additionally, farmers also grow rice crops as a means of livelihood.
Teaching English
In Ninh Binh City, there are plenty of opportunities to teach English to children who are eager to learn the language and to contribute greatly to the community. There is an English Eco-link centre In Ninh Binh City which is about 7 kms away from the homestay. You can spend time with children ranging from age groups of 4-6, 7-8 and 8-12 years old. These young ones are enthusiastic and excited and will listen to what you have to offer to them.
Enter classrooms that are brimming with curious little children who are trying their best to get familiar with English language. Communicate with them and walk them through new lessons to enhance their life skills.
Alternatively, if you want to interact with smaller children who will steal your hearts with their adorableness, contact one of the local kindergartens in the vicinity and drop in there to meet and spend time with tiny tots. Sing Vietnamese nursery rhymes with them, smile and laugh with them and learn to feel like a child again.
