THINGS TO DO IN HOI AN
- Wander into Cua Dai beach
Cua Dai Beach is located at the end of Cua Dai Road, running for eight kilometres along the coast, from the tip at the Cham Island ferry port north to An Bang Beach. Stray away from the beaten road and head either to the small beach area beside Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort, or up the coast, towards An Bang Beach where there is a long stretch of empty white sand that you can sink your toes into. This is a good spot if you want to get away from the crowds; very few tourists know about it. Try the tiny laneway just before or after Boutique Hoi An Resort.
- Stroll into An Bang Beach
An Bang beach has slowly been gaining the status of Hoi An’s best beach and is located about 4 kms away from Hoi An’s UNESCO world heritage center. It is the perfect accessory ti the bustling beautiful old town. You can either hang out in one of the casual bars on this beach or simply settle with a book or an umbrella on the soft white sand of this heavenly beach.
- Seek solace in Van Duc Pagoda
A huge temple structure constructed with wooden following traditional architecture style. It is situated about 4kms away from An Bang. The best time to visit is in the evening on full moons and auspicious Buddhist celebrations like Buddha’s birthday, when monks travel for miles to pray at the pagoda.
- Binge on a food tour
The tour obviously starts at the tourist hub in the old town on a street sprawling and vibrant, where dozens of stalls sit under the weight of brightly coloured produce, steaming vats of soup and family-recipe delicacies, trying to find their footing in the organized chaos. Try out everything from condiments to com ga, trung vit lon (duck foetus egg) or duck congee served with a plate of brain, blood cake and offal. Hop on an organized food tour for a complete and thorough guide to eating right at Hoi An.
